Tongabezi Lodge
Tongabezi - A luxury lodge on the sweeping Zambezi bank, upstream from Victoria Falls. With emphasis on personal, attentive service all 26 guests are treated to a distinctive experience. Five architecturally unique houses (one with private plunge pool); five river view cottages with private decks, en-suite bathrooms, separate bedroom and sitting room; one walled garden view house with a second bedroom and private plunge pool. We have a reputation of putting our money where our mouth is, a superb standing in the teaching community through Tujatane the Tongabezi Trust School and now we are extending the reach of our involvement through donating 10% of proceeds from Livingstone Island to build houses for Mukuni village teachers. It is a basic fact that better housing attracts higher qualified teachers and the three bedroom houses that we build are considered excellent teacher accommodation and having the desired effect of making the schools in this area more attractive to teachers. To date three houses have been handed over.
Tujatane has grown from a pre-school class of 15 children, to a primary school with over 190 students. The school has charity status in the UK and is completely funded on donations. Apart from the first classroom, which Tongabezi built, the development of the school has been made possible through the generous sponsorship of donors all over the world. These donations range from individual child sponsorship, teacher sponsorship, help with our food programme, medical programme to building projects. The school currently has five classrooms, an office, a library, a kitchen, an amphitheatre, a storeroom, a computer room with s ix donated laptops and a fantastic new music room with guitars and keyboards as well as local instruments such as the marimba. We are currently extending the school with 2 extra classrooms for grades 8 & 9 as well as a new office and science storeroom as well as upgrading one existing class into a fully equipped science laboratory.
