The Uganda Conservation Foundation was established to help previously war-stricken, high biodiversity regions in Uganda. Severe poaching had killed all the Rhino and many of the large herds of Elephants that once made Uganda the country with the most mega-herbivores per km2 in Africa. The Foundation evolved from a 1990s project, ‘Elephants, Crops and People’, undertaken by Michael Keigwin in Ishasha (QENP). The project is still a core pillar of UCF activity, with Elephant trenches and Bee-fences constructed and maintained by local committees, as well as the implementation of community income generation schemes.
The Uganda Conservation Foundation is a proactive organization - 90% of all donations and funding go directly into the field. And your journey discovering Africa contributes to this, as The Far Horizons makes a donation to UCF projects for every safari sold.
We are also developing a leaflet to enclose in client welcome packs that gives more information on the organisation and its work. This makes it easy for clients to make a donation of their own, ultimately helping UCF conserve the wild places they have been lucky enough to visit.
