Chiwawatala School 2011 Calendar, Mfuwe, Zambia

by Zambezi

24 November 2010

This is the fifth year the Luangwa fund raising calendar has been produced and again the pictures have been drawn by children from Chiwawatala School in the rural Mfuwe village on the edge of South Luangwa National Park.

The theme for this year was 'On Safari in South Luangwa National Park'. The area has very limited resources and the school relies on donations and fund raising efforts for their survival. The winning entries have been printed with the help of the U-Foundation.

The calendars are available at Mfuwe Lodge and the Bushcamps ($10), with all proceeds going towards the school projects and Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust. Calendar orders via email.

Mana Pools Management Plan should be revisited…

by Zambezi

22 November 2010

Following on the heels of the debate on developments on the Zambian shoreline opposite Mana and since the ATTA briefing on 6 October outlining Zambezi Society’s (ZamSoc) Member Consultation on developments proposed by ZimParks (ZWPMA) in Mana Pools - Zimbabwe, ZamSoc has today issued a statement and proposed a moratorium on all new riverside developments at Mana Pools until the existing and hopefully widened management plan can be revisited by all stakeholders.

The Mana Pools and wider World Heritage Site area needs support and constructive input to secure its future for all stakeholders in this wild region.

Find out more about the Zambezi Society's consultation document, or get involved and keep a tab through the Save Mana Pools campaign on Facebook.
