New properties for Kamili's portfolio
Kamili is delighted to be adding two stunning new properties between Africa's two summits Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, to their portfolio of exclusive safari experiences.
Set against the stunning Tanzanian backdrop and ‘Oscar winning' landscapes of Kilimanjaro country, these two beautifully styled luxury bush lodges; Hatari Lodge and Shu'Mata Camp are set in one of Africa's most beautiful, rich and diverse national parks, both properties offer fabulous panoramic views twinned with superb wildlife encounters.
Nature at it's most breathtaking - Africa's highest peak Kilimanjaro needs no introduction, once renowned as a mecca only for climbers, the abundance of wildlife in this area is a better kept secret.
The majestic slopes teem with wildlife including; elephant, black rhino, giraffe, crocodile, lion, leopard and cheetah. This is also the site of the annual migration of herds of herbivores including wildebeest and zebra.
The lodges are an experience in their own right; Hatar's styling is in keeping with the 1960's Howard Hawks film Hatari! starring Hardy KrÜger and John Wayne, and evokes an ambiance of adventure and true safari romance of times gone by. Guests are captivated by the bewitching charm unique to this location, and made iconic by the silver screen as the birthplace of safari in Tanzania.
Hatari Lodge is situated on the northern edge of the Arusha National Park, amid the unspoilt lakes, craters and rainforests which surround the dormant volcano of Mount Meru. Traditional farm buildings situated in acacia woodland form the heart of the lodge which offers breathtaking views onto the Momella swamp meadow, rich with wildlife.
The original buildings house a lounge; library, veranda, viewing deck and dining room, there are 9 extremely comfortably furnished bedrooms, of which each has an open fireplace and a spacious en suite bathroom.
The sister lodge, Shu'Mata Camp is nestled at the foot of Kilimanjaro, in traditional Masai land known as the Private South Amboseli. Five large tents, in true Hemingway style, form a line on a hill with magnificent views in all directions. At the front, bush savannah melts into the slopes of Kilimanjaro. The tents all have en-suite bathrooms decorated colourfully with Masai art, and a veranda with up-lifting views
Tim Henshall, MD at Kamili commented "At Kamili we strive to offer outstanding safari options to the trade - these two sister properties offer something truly special. This is safari in its purest sense with something enriching and magical to take away."
The Momella conservancy is committed to conservation and securing a fair deal through tourism and a secure future for local Masai communities. Community achievements to date have been diverse and range from providing healthy water and a pre-school, to garbage disposal facilities, language courses and a football club.
Taking great pride in their work and their heritage, the conservancy aims to instil a sense of pride and self sufficiency in their children and generations to come.
