Top Marks for Promoting Zimbabwe

The Zambezi Safari and Travel Company ( 01548 830059) is celebrating taking first place in the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards 2011, in recognition of their commitment to promoting Zimbabwe as a tourism destination.

The Devon-based tour operator took the top spot in the Tourism category of the awards, introduced to recognise and raise the profile of Zimbabweans from all walks of life throughout the UK who have pushed the limits to raise the Zimbabwe flag high.  The Tourism Award is given in recognition of a candidate who is successfully promoting Zimbabwe as a tourism destination and is continually raising the profile of the country on an international scale.

Fellow ATTA members, Tashinga Initiative, were recognised with the Conservation Award.

In a message of congratulation, Shelley Cox, Vice-Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Business Network in the UK said: “Congratulations on the exemplary work you are doing and thank you.”

Accepting the award, managing director of the Zambezi Safari and Travel Company, John Berry commented: “Zimbabwe has some of Africa’s top professional guides, scenically stunning and diverse habitats and exceptional safari experiences.  Despite recent political events visitors will find a warm welcome and some of the best service on the continent.  We’re proud to be Zimbabwe ambassadors.”

The company is calling for visitors to look again at Southern Africa’s forgotten jewel.  “Rediscover Zimbabwe before the crowds do – it’s one of the hottest safari tickets around!” said Mr Berry.

Launched in 1995 on the shores of Lake Kariba by directors John and Trish Berry and Chris Worden, The Zambezi Safari and Travel Company was the first Zimbabwean tour operator to offer consumers online access to safaris.  The company moved to the UK in 2000 whilst retaining satellite offices in the Zambezi Valley along with a core team of long term Zimbabweans, and today serves adventurous spirits from all corners of the globe with an in depth local knowledge and unparalleled passion for Africa.
