Mara Plains Camp upgrade schedule 2012-13By Great Plains Conservation
In its present form the camp is already one of the very best in the Mara ecosystem and enjoys the greatest traversing area of any camp in the area. The new Mara Plains will employ the latest in eco-technology, enlarged tents for greater comfort; yet keep the intimacy and ambience that the present camp enjoys. Once completed Mara Plains will be one of the finest and greenest camps in all East Africa.
February 2012: New vehicles arrive. Two brand-new, open-sided Land Cruiser 4x4s, custom designed by Dereck and Beverly Joubert for 360-degree game viewing and photography.
10 April - 31 May 2012: Closed - partial refurbishment. Looking after the environment and staff first the back-of-house operations and staff accommodation will be rebuilt, introducing the greenest technology to the camp. Camp closed with routine maintenance to existing tents and main mess tents. Family unit constructed.
01 June - 31 October 2012: Camp open for business as usual. New deluxe/family tent & Swarovski binos. Refreshed and improved camp, ready for the peak migration season. The new luxury two-bedroom unit will open in June. This will be two en-suite tents connected by a shared lounge perfect for families, friends or high-profile clients wanting extra space. Swarovski Optik, the world famous optics company, will be placing their latest “SLC 8 x 42 HD Field Binoculars” in each tent in time for the reopening.
Nov 2012 - March 2013: Closed - main renovation. Camp will close in its entirety in order to complete the full redesign of remaining tents and public areas.
March 2013: Completely new camp opens. Make sure you've allocated space in your next 2013 brochure, as the new Mara Plains Camp is going to be phenomenal!
