Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch gets new GMBy Protea Hospitality Group
July 2012: Jozi’s hottest hotel, Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch, gets a new GM on 1 August 2012, when Gabrielle Abrahams take over the reins.
The lively, zany Operations Manager of the hotel takes over the reins from Anton Gillis, who is leaving the company after 6 years of helping to mould the funky Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! brand into what it is today. He is moving to Netcare.
Abrahams, a Wits Technikon hospitality management graduate, had been in hotel management for 15 years in properties ranging from three star country lodges to five star city hotels. She includes in her areas of expertise dealing with high profile GUESTS and intricate client relations in addition to STAFF management, event organisation, training and development, finance and administration.
In the past 9 years Abrahams has worked on the start-up team of African Pride Melrose Arch Hotel and served as the property’s Front Office and GUEST Services Manager.
Last year she moved around the corner to Jozi’s coolest hotel, Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! Melrose Arch, and became Operations Manager responsible for the day-to-day running of the hotel.
Abrahams said she was excited about her new position.
“The past 15 years have been leading up to this moment. There is no doubt that the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! brand is the most exciting in South Africa and I intend to continue and grow the legacy of Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! with constant innovation to give our GUESTS far more than they expect every time they set foot through the door.”
Protea Hospitality Group Director of Sales, Marketing and Revenue, said Abrahams was a worthy replacement and the creative star who with her TEAM would take the hotel into the next generation.
“Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! requires more than someone with the usual management skills set, because the brand is so edgy and experiential. Its constant innovation is one of the major reasons Protea Hotels has been voted Coolest Hotel Group in the Sunday Times Generation Next annual survey for three years out of four.
“We’re confident that Abrahams and her TEAM will achieve great things.”
