Wild Dogs at Mara Plains Camp
By Great Plains Conservation
As an indicator species of a healthy ecosystem we're extremely excited to announce that for the first time in many years wild dog have been spotted in the Olare Orok and Mara North Conservancies. This stunning news posted by Mara Plains Camp management couple, Richard Pye (words) and Lorna Buchanan-Jardine (photos):
“This morning at 6:30am, as guests were leaving camp for their morning drive, their guide spotted three Wild Dogs passing within 200 meters of the camp, heading north through the Olare Orok Conservancy. Some of you may feel this may not be something that special but to put this in perspective, there are no Wild Dog in the Masai Mara! The three were watched in the light of the rising sun as they passed the camp, oblivious to the Mara Plains vehicles. Considering the rarity of this sighting in this area this would have to be the top sighting of the year…” 20 September
