Asilia Africa / AfrikaAfrika - Joint Venture for seasonal camp in Lamai from 1st July 2013

February 2013

Asilia Africa / AfrikaAfrika - Joint Venture for seasonal camp in Lamai from 1st July 2013

Asilia Africa will open a new camp - Olakira Lamai Camp - in the Lamai Wedge for the period of 1st July to 31st October 2013. The camp is an exciting joint venture between Asilia Africa and AfrikaAfrika. Consisting of 8 tents, with the same look and feel as the Olakira Camp you already know, Olakira Lamai Camp will open on the site of AfrikaAfrika’s Serengeti Mara Camp. It will have the same service offering and standards as Olakira.

How does the Joint Venture work?

The new camp will be designed, operated and owned by Asilia. The staff will be employed and trained by Asilia. Both AfrikaAfrika and Asilia will market the camp – Asilia Africa under the name “Olakira Lamai Camp” – and AfrikaAfrika under their existing “Serengeti Mara Camp” name. You can decide whether to book through Asilia or AfrikaAfrika, however the camp’s booking charts will be managed by Asilia and the camp is displayed on our availability overviews.

How does this work in detail?

As a tour operator, you simply choose who you like to work with on this camp: Asilia or AfrikaAfrika. For you and for your clients, the camp’s name will be either Olakira Lamai Camp (if working through Asilia) OR Serengeti Mara Camp (if working through Afrika Afrika), never both. However, it is important to re-iterate, that it is only one camp which has the same service offering and standards as Olakira Camp.

Location & accessibility into the Lamai Wedge area:

The Camp is situated in the Mihingu Area of the Lamai Wedge, in the Northern Serengeti. The Lamai Wedge area (wedged in between the Mara River on the south, the Kenyan border to the north, and the Siria escarpment to the west) is a spectacular wildlife and scenic area and widely recognized as “the honeypot” of the Serengeti. 14km North West of Kogatende, the camp offers an ideal base for viewing the migration with easy access to river crossing points. The Camp enjoys a private and intimate location, coupled with uninterrupted views of the long grass plains leading into the Masai Mara.

Access to the site has historically been an issue when the river was too high to cross when arriving by vehicle. This is why this camp will be sold as Game Package only. TFC has confirmed they will operate flights into the Lamai Airstrip beginning 1st July. The flight costs are the same as if flying into Kogatende and the minimum number of passengers is 2. It is very likely other flight operators will also offer this connection soon and once this gets confirmed we will inform you.
