Sanctuary Olonana - Extensive refurbishment and upgrade

November 2013 - Sanctuary Olonana, our award winning tented camp situated on a private stretch of the Mara River will be closed for 2 weeks at the end of November and beginning of December and undergo an extensive upgrade to the public areas of the lodge as well as a soft refurbishment to the tented rooms and pool area.

The interior décor will change to a contemporary design using a combination of light earthy tones, duck egg blue, grey, stone and pewter.

A complete new entrance will be built where guests will be welcomed with a refreshing drink after arriving at the lodge or when returning from a game viewing activity. We wanted the local Masai ladies to play an active part in the refurbishment and so they suggested and offered to “mud” the interior walls in all of the main areas, curio shop and offices. This is the same technique used in their own houses and involves mixing cow dung, sand and cement which is placed on the walls.
