From SATSA CEO on new regulations

The battle on the new birth certificates and biometric visa regulations continues and SATSA has taken a leading role in the fight. An op-ed that I wrote was featured in the Business Day on 18 July to counter a fairly belligerent article from the DG of Home Affairs the previous week. In case you missed it, click here.

In addition, I was interviewed on ANN7 News on 23 July, to view the clip click here.  Through the TBCSA we have commissioned a 50-page report from Grant Thornton on the issue which has encapsulated inputs sent in from members – many thanks for your contributions. This report has been forwarded to Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom, who will be meeting Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba this week. Beyond the clear damage this is already wreaking in our sector, the fact that there was no direct consultation with our industry, nor have we seen any proper economic and regulatory impact assessment study from Home Affairs, may give us a way out.
