DMC Safari Trails to conduct training programmes for Indian travel trade this year

Nairobi-based Destination Management Company (DMC), Safari Trails Ltd. is looking at aggressively promoting its services in the Indian market, and for the same purpose, will conduct training programmes for the travel trade this year. The DMC specialises in group tours and tailor-made packages for photographic and adventure wildlife safaris in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. It also organises beach holidays, including honeymoon packages, to Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu, and Zanzibar.

Speaking to TravelBiz Monitor, Rajay Thethy, Managing Director, Safari Trails, said, “We recently participated in Kenya Tourism Board’s roadshows in Chandigarh, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad, and the responses from these markets  were very encouraging. However, we found that the travel trade in these cities lack product knowledge, and that there was a dire need for educating them in the same. Therefore, we will conduct training programmes to make them aware of our product line and company profile.”

Elaborating on the training programmes, Thethy said, “We will be partnering with tourism boards, airlines (Kenya Airways, Air Arabia, Emirates, and Etihad Airways) and hotels to conduct our training programmes, as it is important to educate the trade about connectivity, besides products and destinations.”

About their marketing strategy in India, he said, “We will work with tour operators on joint promotional activities. In addition, we will conduct three Familiarisation (FAM) trips this year for the Indian travel trade. We have identified Mumbai and New Delhi as the main markets, but will also focus on Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.”

“We have been focusing on the Indian market for some time now, and are looking for a lasting relationship. We have been present in the market for over ten years. Global Destinations has been representing us here since 2008. India is one of the rapidly growing markets for Outbound Tourism globally. It is also the among the top five source markets for Kenya,” added Thethy.

Talking about the packages of Safari Trails, Thethy said, “We are looking at offering authentic wildlife experience through Kenya and Tanzania. The focus is on luxury, wildlife, honeymoon, wildlife photography, and sky safari. We have come up with the Elewana Sky Safari itinerary for the Indian market. In addition, we are looking at offering beach experiences at Zanzibar and Mombasa.”
