Kampala Adventure Cycling ride for prison children
Uganda Tourism Board and Kampala Capital City Authority in partnership with Palms Travel Bureau at a joint press conference on 9th July launched the Kampala Adventure Cycling 2015.
The event is set for 17-21 August and will involve 30 cyclists from Europe, 70 international workers and over 500 locals. It is for a good cause- to support children born in Uganda’s prisons, or those who have to go to prison with their mothers because they have nowhere else to go.
"This initiative was born in May 2014 when Uganda tourism officials, private operators and Uganda Embassy in Denmark participated in a road show in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Belgium," says Stephen Asiimwe CEO of Uganda Tourism Board.
The cycling adventure is being organized by Palms Travel Bureau in partnership with Uganda Tourism Board and Kampala Capital City Authority. Set to take place on 16th August 2015 the cycling adventure is an opportunity to sightsee taking in major historical and tourism attractions along the routes.
Proceeds from registration go to a fund to support vulnerable children born and raised in prisons- specifically Luzira Prison.
After the Kampala Adventure Cycling, the European team together with other experienced riders will take on the Mountain Bike Challenge from 17-21 August 2015. This will take them to Fort Portal at the foot of the Mountains of the Moon, before turning south to go through Queen Elizabeth National Park. The challenge will end in Kabale at Lake Bunyonyi.
