Uganda unlocks the power of sports tourism in Jinja Challenge

Uganda moves one gear up as the Uganda Tourism Board in partners with Sports Tourism International (STI) and tourism stakeholders to media launch of the Source of The Nile Corporate Challenge.

The challenge is running under the theme Unlocking the Potential of Sports Tourism in Uganda. This will take place from 28th to 30th August 2015 in Jinja.

For years, tourism in Africa has been based on the wildlife and natural resources. With time, the need to ensure that local people benefit from tourism has been identified. Sports Tourism International (STI) has gone even a notch higher and would like to not only benefit the locals, but also ensure their active participation.

One of Uganda’s key tourism destinations is Jinja, the un-disputed ‘Adventure Capital of East Africa’. Thanks to the Source of the Nile, this magnet for ‘adrenalin junkies’ from all over the world provides water sport activities such as whitewater rafting, speed boating, canoeing, bungee jumping as well as quad biking and horse riding. With its mix of activities and many hotels, Jinja is an ideal location for an annual sports tourism event.

Over 100 corporate teams are expected to attend. The participants will include corporates from Uganda and the East African countries, Nigeria,  South Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia.

The Source of the Nile Corporate Challenge (SNCC) activities include: birding race, quad biking, swimming gala, football, netball, volleyball, golf, kayaking/boat regatta
