Passenger Departure Taxes - Likoma Island

Notice from Ulendo Air and Kaya Mawa re the introduction of passenger departure taxes from Likoma Island.

Malawi Government have recently awarded management of Likoma Island airport to Airport Developments Limited (ADL) in an effort to better maintain and manage the runway, terminal building and security of the aerodrome. From a safety and passenger service perspective, this is wonderful news and we have every confidence in the professionalism and experience of ADL.

Unfortunately this does come at a cost and Service Fees are being introduced for all departing passengers using the airport from 01 October 2016. A fee of US$10.00 per Adult and US$5.00 for Children under 12 years will be payable directly to the airport authorities on departure. Please note that departure taxes are not included in Ulendo Airlink’s fare and are for passengers own account. This fee will be accepted in USD cash or the Malawi Kwacha equivalent on date of departure, no credit card facilities are available at the airport. Our ground staff will assist guests at check-in and ensure they receive the correct receipts for any fees paid.

While we fully appreciate that this may appear to be yet another tax, we do support the initiative by the authorities to improve the standards of Malawi’s airfields and feel a well maintained airport represents better safety for our passengers.
