A marketing tip from Africa Geographic: Putting your audience first

TIP: The trick to creating content that is easily shared is not to think about what you want to talk about, but rather what readers want to know.

Putting your audience first:

When thinking of topics to blog about, the easiest way to go about it is to think about what it is that you want to talk about. Unfortunately, what you want to talk about is not always what audiences want to read. While a new building in your lodge might be super exciting news for you, for most readers it’s probably not all that fascinating.

Putting the interests of your readers first means taking into consideration what might appeal to them over what might appeal to you. When coming up with topic ideas, think about who your readers are. In Africa Geographic’s case we have readers from all around the globe, many of who are keen to travel and are wildlife-obsessed.

Keeping this in mind is key to creating content that will appeal to a broad range of people. The more people your content resonates with, the more people are likely to share it and the further your reach will be. Remember that content is not just for the converted, but also for attracting new readers who have never heard of your brand before.
