International travel operators and media explore Uganda

Kampala –It is now official! The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2017 has taken off with the arrival of international hosted buyers in the country.

The guests were welcomed at a cocktail hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and its agencies led by the Uganda Tourism Board.

"To all of your from all the corners of the world, you are very welcome to the Pearl of Africa!" Mr. Stephen Asiimwe, UTB CEO said to a round of applause for the international guests. The over 60 guests included tour operators and travel media from 20 countries among them Brazil, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, Australia, USA, UK, Italy, Kenya and Holland to mention but a few.

The guests had their sampling of Uganda through a cultural performance put up for them. Earlier in the day, many of them had visited the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre where they had a behind the scenes experience coming up close to the animals.

The POATE hosted buyers are travelling in two fam trip groups, one to the southern tourism circuit which includes Bwindi and Mgahinga national parks; and the other the northern circuit to Kidepo and Murchison parks among others tourism attractions.

Apart from the game viewing, the operators and media shall also visit the accommodation facilities in the parks, Kampala, Entebbe and Jinja. This will form their knowledge base from which they will promote the country in their respective regions.

Other guests for POATE will arrive through the course of the week. Among those expected are ministers and their tourism agency heads from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
