Ruckomechi Camp Opens for 2017 Season
By Wilderness SafarisWilderness Safaris Ruckomechi Camp has opened for the 2017 season, with Little Ruckomechi set to re-open on 1 June; both offering the most authentic and sustainable ecotourism experience in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park.
“We are well rested, fully recharged and looking forward to an exciting 2017 season ahead”, said Ruckomechi Camp Assistant Manager, Edmond Mudzimu. “Our guides have just returned from an intensive training course in Hwange National Park where they also completed an advanced First Aid Course. Our chefs have also returned from their various other assignments in Hwange ready to cook up a storm, with many delicious creations for our guests to look forward to”.
Ruckomechi (10 tented suites), which was completely rebuilt last year, and Little Ruckomechi (3 tented suites), a new camp that opened for guests in July 2016, symbolise an understated luxury synonymous with the authentic and nostalgic feel of old-school safaris. Both camps are situated in Wilderness Safaris’ private concession in the Park, offering an extraordinary wilderness experience that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways – on expertly-guided game drives and bush walks, canoeing and boat cruises along the Zambezi River, or even just relaxing in camp to soak up the views of the Zambezi and perhaps even watch a few elephants wander past.
“Thanks to the excellent rains that we have received this summer, everything is looking incredibly lush. We are seeing lots of wildlife, big and small, and many beautiful birds. The mighty Zambezi River is flowing strongly and riverine life is at its best; hippos can be seen dotted throughout the river. Elephants are frequently spotted swimming, while many crocodiles are taking advantage of the sunshine. Fishing has been great and we have landed different sizes and species ranging from tigerfish and bream to tilapia and bottlenose (all fishing is catch-and-release only). We have plenty to look forward to in the next few months and are ready and waiting to share these wonders with our guests”, Mudzimu added.
