Aerial Patrols Continue To Combat Poaching In North-West Namibia

In an ongoing partnership with Save the Rhino Trust Namibia (SRT) and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), Wilderness Safaris is proud to report the success of their most recent entirely airborne anti-poaching operation, forming part of a campaign launched last year. Involving two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft, the aim of the campaign is to monitor, dehorn and protect black rhino in north-west Namibia. Funded partly by Wilderness Safaris’ Sustainability Fund, the recent operation saw close to 50 rhinos dehorned in order to deter poachers, as well various other veterinary services carried out in the local villages.

Wilderness Wildlife Trust Combats Human-Lion Conflict in North-West Namibia

Wilderness Safaris’ non-profit partner, the Wilderness Wildlife Trust (WWT), has allocated funds towards the Namibia Desert Lion Conservation Project to ensure the continuity of the crucial work required in the ongoing mitigation of human-lion conflict in the north-west of the country. Channelled through the TOSCO (Tourism Supporting Conservation) Trust, the funds will be used to procure 10 early-warning GPS and satellite collars, as well as two Remote Alert Units.

Wilderness Wildlife Trust Supports Translocated Wild Dogs in Mana Pools

Wilderness Safaris’ non-profit partner, Wilderness Wildlife Trust, has allocated vital funding required to feed the recently translocated wild dogs in Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park for an additional five months. Due to be released this month, it was observed that the alpha female is now pregnant, so they will remain in their boma at Wilderness Safaris Chikwenya Camp for this extra time. The wild dogs were moved from Hwange National Park in September 2019 to help mitigate the threat of human-wildlife conflict, as well as expand the range of this extraordinary Endangered species.
