Boy oh Boy! New Rhino Born in Sera Conservancy’s Rhino Sanctuary

Saruni lodges & camps is delighted to share the news that a new male rhino calf was born in the Sera Rhino Sanctuary on 18th May 2021. The as-yet-unnamed new-born is incredibly the 3rd rhino calf to be born to “Naitamany", a 17 years’ old female who was translocated to the Sanctuary, along with 9 other adults from throughout Kenya back in 2015. This new addition brings the total rhino count inside Sera’s 54,000 hectares-large Sanctuary to 19.

With no poaching or security incidents and 9 births to date – the Sera-owned and managed Rhino Sanctuary is truly an incredible example of the ground-breaking, community-driven conservation initiatives in Kenya today. Saruni is proud to be in partnership with Sera Community, bringing tourism revenue and much-needed investment through jobs, development and expansion to the community for the first time since the Sanctuary was conceptualised. Saruni Rhino, an intimate 3-banda camp situated along a dry-river bed in the 350,000 hectare-large Sera Conservancy, is the base from which guests can embark upon the on-foot, endangered black rhino tracking experience guided by Samburu warriors and Sera rangers using traditional methods.
