Airkenya is proud to partner with The Samburu Water Project to create equality for women and girls from the Samburu community by providing clean sources of water in the vicinity of their community. Airkenya provides financially as well as providing flights to the remote, but beautiful region of Samburu. Between May 2018 and December 2019, with support from AirKenya, The Samburu Project drilled 22 wells in the Samburu region of Kenya and was in the process of drilling another 12. To date, they have drilled 118 wells. The impact on the health, education and women’s empowerment to the Samburu community is reflected on over 100,000 people who now have access to clean water, and who are no longer walking great distances in search of water. As a result, more children than ever are attending school, education (especially for girls) has doubled in these well communities! Women are starting small businesses, growing food for consumption and sale. Infant deaths caused by waterborne diseases in these communities for has been eradicated. Every year, Airkenya contributes about $10,000 towards the program expense in the form of transportation for their 25 staff and board members. This success story has been made possible as a result of the partnership between the Wells Project and Airkenya.
