Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in Kenya since 1972.
We were the first operators to be permanently based in the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designed 'getaway' for the Governors of Kenya. Our camps are located in some of the best and most precious wildlife locations in the world.
We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of Safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do.
GOVERNORS` CAMP - The entire camp is under canvas, with all the comforts of a luxury hotel. The 37 tents are in the classic safari style. Some tents line the picturesque whilst others have spectacular views across the sweeping Mara Plains. Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with constant hot and cold running water, flushing toilets, even bidets. Miles from civilization, our cordon-bleu dinners by candlelight under canvas are a truly unforgettable experience. Clients staying at Governors` enjoy the true safari experience.
LITTLE GOVERNORS` CAMP - Little Governors` Camp is intimate in character. It has only 17 tents set in a tranquil and secluded spot. The Camp is located around a small Lake that is teaming with both animals and birdlife. In the Governors` tradition, there are no fences and hippo and Elephant are regular visitors to the Camp. The spectacle of game viewing from you tent surpasses expectations: Giraffe, Elephant, Hippo and Warthog.
GOVERNORS` IL MORAN CAMP - Governors` IL Moran Camp is a small intimate camp with only ten luxury suite sized tents. Set under spreading Fig trees along the banks of the Mara River, in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Large comfortable tents feature super king size beds which are fashioned from ancient fallen Olive Trees, and bathrooms have Victorian style baths to soap each days dust away. No barriers exit around the Camp where one can feel the intimacy with the wild of nature.
LOLDIA HOUSE - Loldia House nestles under Acacia tress on one of Kenya`s oldest farms. It was built in the Second World War on the shores of Lake Naivasha and has breathtaking views of the dormant Volcano, Mt Longonot. The house has only 9 rooms. The service at Loldia is exceptional and mouthwatering meals are served on the lawn and in the original dinning room. Guests staying at Loldia are ideally situated to take advantage of the wide variety of activities offered in the Rift Valley, where the scenery is spectacular, their is excellent bird and wildlife.
MFANGANO ISLAND CAMP is set in beautiful gardens on a secluded bay overlooking Lake Victoria. The six double rooms all offer spectacular vistas across the Lake, and they are very tastefully and newly decorated using local materials and crafts. Each morning fleets of brightly painted fishing boats glide past. Guests staying at Mfanagano can enjoy the abundant birdlife, the excellent Nile Perch fishing and can also experience the colorful local culture.
SABYINYO SILVERBACK LODGE is nestled underneath the peaks of Volcanoes National Park, home of the magnificent Mountain Gorilla. Nine cottages and suites are havens of warmth and coziness, with roaring log fires and bathtubs for an indulgent bubbly soak. This is why we are on a mission to minimalize our carbon footprint as part of our wider ethos dedicated to conservation and positive impact on neighbouring rural communities. After recently eliminating plastic drinking bottles, we’ve taken the next important step and installed a solar system at Little Governors’ Camp.Read More
