In 1994, the founders of Imvelo had a vision – with their shared passion of the African Bush, its native wildlife, and people, they wanted to create a destination that not only provided visitors to Zimbabwe with a unique and unforgettable safari experience, but also a destination that provided assistance and support to local communities. At one time, indigenous rural communities received very little direct benefit from Zimbabwe’s booming tourism industry. For the majority of locals, tourists were nothing but camera-clad foreigners that drove around national parks in 4x4s. And as for ‘conservation’: a rich man’s joke! For the rural villager, wildlife was by no means an attraction; elephants ate their crops and lions killed their livestock. The animals were problematic and not something to encourage. The hope was – that by building safari attractions and infrastructures within communal areas – a symbiotic relationship between holidaymakers and locals could grow. This would, in turn, enable them to protect and preserve local wildlife, whilst imparting self-sustaining and lifelong methods of survival to the communities, and so Imvelo Safari Lodges was born. We currently have 6 lodges in our portfolio – Gorges Lodge and Little Gorges Tented Lodge are in Victoria Falls, built on the edge of the Batoka Gorge, some 250 metres above the mighty Zambezi River and Bomani Tented Lodge, set in our 5000 acre private reserve on the edge of Hwange National Park. Our third lodge, Camelthorn Lodge is our flagship lodge nestled in a patch of pristine woodland just west of the famous Ngamo Plains on the edge of the south eastern corner of Hwange National Park. Jozibanini Camp is situated in one the of most southern and untouched areas of Hwange National Park. This is a small exclusive camp in a truly wild place allowing guests to have a unique untamed wilderness experience from the safety and comfort of our lodge amongst the ancient fossil dunes. Nehimba Lodge is remotely nestled away on a huge private concession in the northern part of Hwange National Park, combining luxury living, ultimate elegance and African charm to provide you with an exceptional safari experience. The magnificent lodge pan is frequented by large numbers of elephants particularly in the dry season. Zambezi Sands is our 6th lodge situated within the western area of the Zambezi National Park on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River upstream of the Victoria Falls. Zambezi Sands is unique in that it features not only the Zambezi River and water based activities and some glorious wildlife and scenery but is also close to the Victoria Falls.
Our Stimela Star is a private overnight sleeper train that we can hook up to the regular Victoria Falls to Bulawayo passenger train. Stimela Star will transport you in comfort and plenty of old fashioned style overnight from Victoria Falls and you'll awake rested and relaxed ready for your adventure in Hwange National Park.

Seven years of Miracles in Matabeleland - Highlights from Imvelo’s Mobile Dental and Optical Safari 2017!
From a campfire discussion at Bomani many years ago to our first Mobile Dental Safari in 2011, this year our 7th was without a doubt the biggest and best yet. The number of patients treated in a little under a week was just over 4,000, while our first year was 1174! But it’s not just about the numbers – the event has evolved into so much more than annual dental care for villagers. We now have an optical component that this year was larger than the dental, and we added a number of other different new elements each providing relief to thousands.Read More

Built among a grove of Camelthorn trees and slightly away from the rest of the lodge to give it some privacy, the family suite has splendid views across the Ngamo Plains with regular wildlife sightings as animals move in to drink from the nearby Bomani Pan.Read More

The Imvelo Safari Lodges’ annual Dentists Safari started 5 years ago. The program centres around a team of volunteer dentists from Spain and Italy who call themselves Sonrisas para Zimbabwe based out of, and supported logistically, by Imvelo Safari lodges.
