The nearest land to St Helena is Ascension Island, which is 703 miles (1,125km) to the North West. It is 1 200 miles (1 950km) from the South-West coast of Africa and 1 800 miles (2 900km) from the coast of South America.
A 47-square mile island, it is one of the remotest settled islands in the world. A sub-tropical paradise, it is also one of the most spectacular as far as contrast goes.
With its uniquely rich diversity of heritage-based attractions, both built and natural, St Helena offers many things to see and lots to do. For a full list, contact St Helena Tourism.
Until now visitors could only reach the island by boat or yacht, but now visitors can fly away to St Helena on weekly flights to-and-from Johannesburg and Cape Town with SA Airlink.

St Helena confirms additional mid-week flights from Cape Town to St Helena throughout its summer season
Travellers now have the option to discover both Cape Town and St Helena as a twin centre break St Helena in the South Atlantic has launched an extra mid-week flight from Cape Town to St Helena with Airlink. During December 2020 to February 2021 and December 2021 to February 2022, visitors will have the opportunity to explore both Cape Town and St Helena in one trip.

St Helena prepares for exciting shoulder season with whale watching and Halloween tours
Many visitors to St Helena might be drawn in anticipation of the annual visit of whale sharks between December and March, but the south Atlantic island is preparing for an exciting shoulder season during their spring months of September, October and November, with plenty to offer visitors. Although often seen as the coolest months of the year on St Helena, temperatures on the island typically remain between 15°C and 26°C. August to December is also the best time of year to see Humpback Whales, who migrate to the island’s waters every year at this time to give birth to their calves, and these energetic marine creatures can often be seen breaching above the waves just offshore.

St Helena Festival of Running 2018
St Helena will be hosting its 10th Festival of Running from 04 - 10 November 2018. Come along and challenge possibly the hardest marathon in the world which travels through 5 of the island's 7 districts, a half marathon and fun runs; the Jacob's Ladder Challenge with 699 steps; a triathlon, and trail run from the island's capital in the valley to the highest peak, measuring 823m above sea level.

St Helena to attend ITB Berlin
St Helena Tourism will be exhibiting at ITB on the Atta pavilion (Hall 20, 121,122) over the duration of the show. The island began its first commercial air service in October 2017 and the team attending ITB will be travelling by air to the show from 03 March 2018.
