Tanzania- Statement from TATO re TANAPA

Atta has today received the following communique from Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO)

"Following presentations made to the Minister responsible for tourism and ultimately the Hon. Prime Minister, the Government directed TANAPA ( Tanzania National Parks) Board of Trustees to meet to resolve on the issue of status of Tour Operators in relation to the payment and  collection of concession from accommodation facilities situated in the National Parks. At its meeting held recently the TANAPA Board of Trustee decided to exclude Tour Operators from the exercise of  collection of the said fees and resolved that this exercise should remain between the  Land Lord (TANAPA)and the Lessee (Hotels with properties in the Parks"

Members may recall that Atta released the following statement on August 8th 2011

Joint statement issued by Tanzanian Tourism Associations following last week's damaging failure in communications in the tourism industry.

"We regret the inconvenience caused by the unfortunate events over the last days at all entry points of the Tanzania National Parks. The events were caused due to a unilateral decision by TANAPA to revise the concession fees and its payment modalities, which were not in accordance with existing written agreements between the various parties.

We as the Tourism Confederation Tanzania (TCT), the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and the Hotels Association of Tanzania (HAT) have made various appeals to the authorities during the past few weeks to prevent this crisis and have now initiated a dialogue with TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism to resolve the matter. We hope that further inconvenience to our guests can be avoided"
