Tsunami watch on African Coast lifted

Tsunmai Warning lifted

On 11 April an 8.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The tsunami watch for the Indian Ocean region, and African countries with Indian Ocean coastlines issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre immediately after the earthquake, was lifted at 12:36 GMT on 11 April.

The authorities concerned, and in particular the swift and concise response by the Tsunami Waning Centre and the follow up by worldwide government agencies including FCO, are to be cognratulated for a textbook excercise in emergency response.
