Kenya to build new Nairobi road

Kenyan to construct a transport corridor along the northern edge of the Nairobi National Park,

Twenty-four hectares belonging to the park will now form part of the corridor to facilitate completion of the Southern road and rail bypass. The 28.6-kilometre dual carriageway will connect Mombasa Road from Ole Sereni Hotel to Lang’ata Road and moves through Kikuyu to Nakuru highway.

The decision has come under immense scrutiny by environmentalists and wildlife campaigners but the government has defended the project as key to its plans to decongest Nairobi’s city centre and create road and rail linkages that will spur development, adding up to overall national economic growth.
