Fast Jet Africa’s first, low cost, pan–African airline?

Fastjet, is the holding company of Fly540 the airline started by Lonrho in Kenya five years ago and now expanding through Tanzania, Ghana and Angola. The company now plans to start a service between Dar es Salaam and Johannesburg. Fastjet carried 800,000 passengers in year to March 2013. A 50% increase on the year before with an impressive “on time score of 99.2%.

The latest target for Fastjet’s attention is South Africa, through a commercial arrangement with Federal Airlines and a partnership with the SA investment company Blockbuster, who will own 75% of the South African operation. The plans are to start services around the golden triangle Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban and cross border to Mozambique and Zimbabwe
