Kenya - Lewa to become World Heritage site

Mount Kenya National Park expanded to include Nagare Ndare Forest  & Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

June 21

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)  has announced  that the Mount Kenya-Lewa Wildlife conservancy in Kenya, will be  added as an extension to Mount Kenya Natural Park which was designated a World Heritage Site in 1997.

Lewa and Ngare Ndare Forest Reserve were inscribed as an extension to the Mount Kenya World Heritage Site on Friday following  Kenya’s proposal to expand the boundary of the world heritage site and within that criteria to include the cultural and traditional values of Mount  Kenya. This expansion and extension of the criteria for listing will enhance the protection of the property as a world heritage site and improve the conservation status of the mountain.

Atta congratulates the Lewa team on their vision and hardwork that has finally made this highly respected status possible.
