March for the Elephants

From Hoopoe Safaris Tanzania

Many of you will no doubt already be aware of the International March for Elephants, but we thought we would advise the latest update and news as the March is developing into a major event worldwide. There is still time to attend in a city near you.

The International March for Elephants has been organised by The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT) through their iworry campaign and will be taking place in 15 cities across the globe in the single largest demonstration of awareness for the species. There will also be Marches independent of the DSWT in 25 additional cities making a total of 40 cities participating in the March across the globe.

The ivory trade is an international problem and one which must be recognized by Governments worldwide if we are to see any changes. In Tanzania, The International March for Elephants is being organised by the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) Conservation Support Committee whose Vice Chair is Hoopoe's Peter Lindstrom. In his role as Vice Chair of the organising committee, he has been instrumental in promoting the March for Elephants in Tanzania by publishing articles and interviews published in the local press.
