This Week at Atta HQ

Good morning, and welcome to December on a very sad day for all of Africa.

Our thoughts and prayers go to the people of South Africa following the death of their beloved President Nelson Mandela last night. (see Atta home page and obituary)

As you all know by now, the Atta Christmas Networking Event took place in Cape Town last night. There was a huge turn out of 135 and we would like to thank our generous sponsors We Are Africa, SATIB Insurance Brokers, Painted Wolf Wines and South African Airways for making the event possible, as well as our hosts the Bay Hotel of Village & Life. We are also extremely grateful to those who donated prizes: Zanzibar White Sand Luxury Villas & Spa, Camps Bay Retreat, Africa Albida Tourism . The evening would not have been possible without you. Special thanks go to our Southern Africa director Ingram Casey of To Escape To, based in Cape Town, who organised the event and to his team who manned the registration desk

Our CEO Nigel, in the capacity of Tourism Advisor to President Banda's Advisory Committee on the Economy (PACE), has been in Lilongwe, Malawi, at a high level round table conference held to discuss the future of tourism to the country. He then jetted off to Cape Town, via Lusaka and Johannesburg for last night’s Christmas networking event .He is sorely missed by the office working cocker spaniel, Harvey Nicoll, who is patiently waiting by the front door for his return next week. Nigel has also been preparing for his trip to China over Christmas, to continue to grow our relationship with the Chinese tourism market and extend our network over there. He has chosen the Christmas period especially as he has meetings with  over 15 Chinese CEOs and MDs in both Beijing and Shanghai, a good time to go as they do not celebrate Christmas, so it will work as usual, with not many of our competitors around!.

The Chinese newsletter that Lin  our China Rep) and Lina were working on has now been published! You can see an English translation here. We would like to thank both of them for their hard work, it looks fantastic and is going to be a great asset to all of us. We can’t wait to hear feedback from the Chinese market and are already starting to think about the next issue, which will focus on Kenya. We will invite Kenyan experts to include their ideas about selling Kenya as a destination.

As well as this (and, of course, making the final preparations for the event last night), Lina has also been busy booking up webinars – the schedule for next year is filling up, so get your space now by emailing ops@atta.travel. She has also been emailing the Atta media contacts with the latest news from Atta – if you would like to be in with a chance to be in this bi-weekly round-up, keep submitting your news. You can do this via your dashboard; if you need help, you can watch the membership webinar, or send me an email on membership@atta.travel.

This week, we have had some new Latin American members joining, as well as the first member from Switzerland! I am sure you will all join us in welcoming Ailes Voyages, Endeavour Safaris, Flytour Viagens and MGM Operadora de Turismo.

In addition to my usual day-to-day tasks (mainly email and web admin!) I have been working on some documentation we have been putting together for you, which we will roll out at some point in the New Year – this will give you a bit of paperwork to support your membership at Atta, as well as something to put on your wall! I have also been trying to get members to give their contact details to us so more of your teams can receive our news and information - if you would like me to add anyone to your company page, let me know.
