Terminal 1A Solidifies JKIA's Position as the Gateway to the Region
The new terminal 1A is 26000m², with capacity of 2.5 million passengers annually. The terminal is three storey, and includes an aircraft parking area that can handle 21 aircraft; a car park for 1,500 cars (now being used as a temporary international arrivals terminal) and outdoor surface parking for 400 cars.
The departures and arrivals sections of terminal 1A are clearly demarcated, a boost to security. Currently, only departures operate from the terminal, whilst the arrivals section is expected to come into use as from March 2015.
Clear signage complements the spacious operating area which includes 32 check in counters, 10 immigration desks and customs for efficient passenger processing.
Passenger lounges are comfortable, with natural light and décor is composed of striking African art murals. The terminal houses a total of 12 retail outlets which will offer a choice of local and continental food and beverage; financial services and shopping.
The terminal houses airport police offices and there is reassuring Police presence at designated points throughout the terminal and the airport at large. A high standard of security is enforced through thorough security screening for all users, using state of the art security screening equipment.
These developments further strengthen JKIA’s position as the regional hub. Terminal 1A will be used exclusively by Kenya Airways and its partner airlines.
