Lamu Plans New Strategy to Attract Tourists
The Tourism department in Lamu is rebranding the sector.
Tourism Executive Samia Omar said the sector had been badly shaken and it is time to work on the necessary measures to revive it. Samia said there is need to attract back tourists who have kept since the June and July attacks.
She said her office is working on a regional marketing strategy that will see other counties among them Kilifi and Mombasa incorporated in the initiative.
"We want to lean on our regional counterparts and see how far we can go. Lamu can't stand on its own at the moment," Samia said. The event also saw the launch of social media training for all hoteliers in the county. Samia said the training will help in advertising the county.
"We already have a county tourism website that will enable visitors to easily identify all areas that can be toured. The social media training launched today will affect all hoteliers in the entire county. We need to work together to make this happen," she said. Samia said the curfew should be lifted to help revive the sector.
