In a first for Africa, direct flights from Nairobi to Hanoi, Vietnam, will commence on March 30. Passengers from across Africa will be able to reach Vietnam via Nairobi with convenient connections.
The three weekly flights will use one of Kenya Airways’ new Boeing B787-8 Dreamliners and passengers traveling beyond Hanoi will be able to reach their final destinations in Korea, China, and Japan by onward flights with SkyTeampartner airline Vietnam Airlines.
Kenya Airways’ CEO Mbuvi Ngunze commented on the new flights: “Vietnam has shown a considerable and stable economic growth over the recent years, including an increase in trade with Africa. As the first airline to directly connect Vietnam to Africa, we are sure to leverage on this growth. Together with our SkyTeam partner Vietnam Airlines, we are very confident the addition of Hanoi to our network will be a success.”
Kenya Airways is due to add three more Dreamliners this year to complete the delivery of an initial order of 9 such aircraft, but it is an open secret that pending options will be converted into firm orders sooner rather than later to support the rollout of additional destinations or add more frequencies on routes with high passenger volumes.
