SA Tourist arrivals rise 14.8% in first half of 2016

Judging by the rate at which tourism has grown over the past year, this year festive season is bound to be a record-breaking one too.

For the first part of 2016, tourist arrival figures have gone up by 14.8% compared to the same period in 2015.

The massive rise came as no surprise, really, as the first quarter of 2016 also saw an exceptionally strong rebound in tourist arrivals to the country, with an estimated 18.7% growth in arrivals for the first three months of 2016, compared to the first quarter of 2015.

The rise in numbers comes as a welcomed relief following last year's shocking 6.8% drop in tourist arrivals in SA, which many tourism stakeholders ascribed to the implementation of new visa regulations for minor travellers.

Many of the kinks have been smoothed out in the meantime, and the strong growth in numbers points to both the departments of Home Affairs and Tourism working to get tourists into SA.
