ATTA®Grootbos Private Nature Reserve in the Western Cape welcomed a pod of seasonal visitors on Wednesday [July 30] and shared the exciting news in a spectacular video. The video shows a number of Southern right whales leaping out the water.

World Tiger Day aims to raise conservation awareness

Elephants Alive to stream collaring in Greater Kruger area
ATTA®Elephants Alive will be documenting and streaming a live-action elephant collaring on Saturday, August 8 in the Greater Kruger area. The NGO will take viewers at home on an adventure unlike any other. The live stream will include tracking the elephant in the Greater Kruger area, its immobilization, fitting the new collar and watching as the giant comes round and walks off into the bush. All the while, elephant experts and vets will explain what’s happening and answer your questions.

Serengeti Safari One Day at Time
ATTA®The Serengeti National Park has been minding its own business since April and the animals have taken over. Main roads have become tracks, with big cats ambling along looking for breakfast; small tracks have all but disappeared. Airstrips are prime grazing grounds and the sun rises and sets over wilderness.

Rare pygmy geese sighted in Kruger National Park
ATTA®A visitor to Leeupan in the Kruger National Park spotted two rare African pygmy geese. ‘The African pygmy goose (Nettapus auritus) is the smallest species of waterfowl in sub-Saharan Africa. African Pygmy Geese form monogamous pairs, and prefer slow flowing or stagnant water with dense aquatic vegetation,’ said Bob Humphries on his YouTube channel.

Game rangers rescue trapped honey badger
ATTA®Two rangers at Londolozi Game Reserve found a honey badger stuck in a hole under a tree. Honey badgers or ‘ratels’ are known as tough and ferocious animals. Not held back by its size, these creatures aren’t afraid to take on large predators like leopards. These animals are also known to turn venomous snakes into snacks.

Orphaned baby rhino rescued in Kruger National Park
ATTA®SANParks and the Jock Safari Lodge Environmental Monitoring Unit worked quickly to rescue an orphaned rhino calf from poachers, a herd of elephants and a pride of lions. The disorientated male calf was found wandering alone on a tourist road in the south of the Kruger National Park.

ATTA®The government of Benin has entrusted the African Parks Association with the management of the Beninese part of the W National Park in the north-east of the country. This protected area is located between Benin, Niger and Burkina Faso.

ATTA®A video showing an incredible encounter between two big cats is doing the rounds. Thokozani Phakathi was lucky enough to witness the incident in the Kruger National Park. ATTA®A family of critically endangered Cross River gorillas were captured on a camera trap in Nigeria’s Mbe mountains. The Wild Conservation Society (WCS), a non-governmental organisation, said the images are a ‘promising sign for the world’s rarest gorilla.’

Treetop cameras capture first known video of a wild roloway monkey
ATTA®When conservationists set up treetop cameras in Côte d’Ivoire’s Tanoé-Ehy forest, they hoped to get video of the elusive Miss Waldron’s red colobus monkey (Piliocolobus waldroni), a critically endangered species that hasn’t been spotted in 42 years. But instead, another rare, arboreal primate presented itself: the roloway monkey (Cercopithecus roloway).
