May 5th 2021

Kenya’s rich history of golf dates to the early 1900’s. Over this period, the sport has grown tremendously in terms of infrastructure, tournaments and acceptance. Destination Kenya continues to cement her position as a top golfing destination in Africa, boasting over 40 golf courses located in picturesque locations and a growing local and international fan base.

Last year, the World Golf Awards named Kenya Africa’s Best Golf destination beating South Africa, Egypt and Morocco who are regarded as heavy weights in the sport. This recognition came on the back of heavy investment in the sport by the government through the Ministry of Sports and other stakeholders.

The Magical Kenya Open, a European Tour competition is over 51 years old making it one of the oldest golf tournaments in Africa. Additionally, Ladies European Tour, Magical Kenya Ladies Open and the Safari Golf Tour series are some of the golf events that have been key to the development of the sport and visibility of the destination. The Kenya Savannah Classic was drafted to the list of European Tour events in 2021, further cementing Kenya’s position in the sport. Kenya sees golf as a key sport that has enormous potential to market the destination locally, regionally and internationally.

Kenya Tourism Board in collaboration with Karen Country Club presents you an opportunity to experience the destination through Golf tourism offerings.
