From ancient ruins and temples to monolithic churches and fairytale-like castles, Ethiopia is a treasure trove of unique historical, natural and cultural gems, just waiting to be explored. Ethiopia boasts no less than nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites - including the sacred rock churches of Lalibela and the magnificent Simien Mountain National Park, and is home to the fascinating tribes of the Omo Valley.
Ethiopia follows the Julian calendar, which consists of 12 months of 30 days each, and a 13th month of five days (6 days in a leap year). The calendar is 7 years behind the Western or Gregorian calendar, with New Year’s Day falling in the month of September.
