Exclusive Touch Africa was honoured to be part of the organisation of the 45th Zim Air Rally 2019. This three day event started at Robins Camp, Hwange National Park, and ended in Victoria Falls. The highlight was the finale of an awesome, two ship aerobatic display that took place in Victoria Falls on the 07th June 2019. This display was masterfully orchestrated by two aerobatic pilots, Mark “Bugs” Hensman and Mark Sampson.

Flying for Team Extreme, Bugs is well known in local aviation circles as he grew up in Zimbabwe, and he partnered up with Cape Tonian Mark Sampson, a first time to Zimbabwe for the South African veteran aerobatic performer. Bugs flies an MX2 and Mark Sampson an SBACH, and the manoeuvres they carried out for the initial performance have been seen in Zimbabwe before as well as numerous South African shows and at the Botswana Race for Rhinos, however it was the sparkling display at dusk that was an all time first in African skies. Attaching firework rocket type pyrotechnics to the ends of the wings the two aircraft put on an awesome “fireworks” in the clear evening African skies. The two had performed the display in China but never here in Africa. It was an emotional moment for Bugs to perform for the first time back over home ground and a great thrill for the crowd of local Vic Falls residents to witness such a spectacular display.

The pilots did a fun flight the day of departure over the Victoria Falls, down the Zambezi River to Lake Kariba and very kindly shared some of their images of our beautiful country with us.

We look forward to these gentlemen returning next year at the 46th Zim Air Rally!!
